Minimal-Invasive Chirurgie

Department of General, Abdominal and Oncologic Surgery

One of the leading centers in Germany

The range of service offered by our surgical department covers not only general, abdominal and the full spectrum of oncological visceral surgery, but also parts of thoracic surgery and the wide range of emergency surgery in a 24/7 setting. We pay special attention to minimally- invasive laparoscopic procedures (“keyhole surgery”) and we are one of the leading centers in Germany in performing surgery of benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus.

  • The department has particular experience regarding surgery of malignant
diseases of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, colon and rectum –latterwith special respect to and experience in continence- preserving procedures.
  • The department offers extended treatment options due to close cooperation with other specialist surgical departments within the hospital, which allows to carry out procedures that go beyond traditional organ boundaries (“multivisceral resections”), or require complex reconstruction procedures.  A very close cooperation exists with the gastroenterological department with whom joining in a “reference center of visceral medicine”.
  • Highly specialized surgeons perform oncologic surgery for gastric,
pancreatic, bile duct and colorectal cancer including cytoreductive procedures and intraoperative chemotherapy with hyperthermia in patients with peritoneal surface malignancies or peritoneal metastases as well as endocrine surgery of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands and pancreas.
  • General surgical procedures include diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy, diagnostic excision of lymph nodes and other tissue specimen, proctologic procedures and all kinds of hernia surgery (especially groin and incisional hernia), often in a minimally-invasive technique.
  • The experience in antireflux surgery and in surgical treatment of chronic
inflammatory intestinal diseases is significant because it requires for example laparoscopically performed proctocolectomy.
  • A day case setting is the implanation of port-a cath systems.
  • The department has an interdisciplinary admissions unit, generous intermediate care and comfort care wards. The department is part of the Integrative Tumor Center with its oncologists and oncological day care facility.
