Bow legs / X-legs (Genu Varum / genu valgum)

The knee joint as well as other joints as the  hip and ankle, the mechanical axes is very important and plays a major role in transferring the power and weight from the upper body to the feet which plays significant role in joint wear. 

Etiology
The cause of this deformity may be congenital or acquired

Investigations
In case of clinical suspicion the Lower limb axes should be examined meticulously .A simple x-ray can confirm the diagnosis.

Therapy
Correction of these deformities is considered as a joint-preserving procedures, whose objective is to preserve the joint function as long as possible and thus delays or at least the progression of the osteoarthritic changes in the joint and delays the indication for joint replacement. 

After a long follow up period of our patients  who have done a corrective osteotomy , we found that the operation have delayed the indication for Knee prosthesis in  86% of the patients for at least 10 years.
